Job Title

Payroll Accountant

Job Presentation
The Payroll Accountant will be responsible for ensuring accurate and timely payroll processing and payments, be responsible for posting into the accounting system and preparing reconciliation

Education LevelDegree
QualificationsAcademic degree and professional accountancy qualification (e.g. ACCA, CIMA, ZICA etc.) or only remaining with profession level papers
SoftwareProficiency in Microsoft Excel (working with high volume data) and Word
Knowledge OfInternational financial reporting standards (IFRS).
Skills ToRelevant Zambian laws and regulations, particularly those relating to employees (e.g. Acts, SI’s and regulations pertaining to Employment, NAPSA, NHIMA, Income Tax etc).
Ability ToWork under pressure and handle competing work demands
Other RequirementsProficiency in Microsoft Excel (working with high volume data) and Word
Requirements
  • Be the primary contact between Finance and HR for payroll processing
  • Work closely with the HR payroll team to ensure that payroll inputs are provided timely, are complete and accurate
  • Load payroll inputs received from the HR payroll team into the payroll system (Sage), run calculations and produce reports for review by the HR payroll team and the supervisor
  • Once reviews are completed and signed off, prepare payroll payment reports for submission to the treasury/payments team for payment processing
  • Publish payslips timely enough to ensure the employees are able to countercheck the amounts received and avoid queries
  • Extract payroll journals from Sage, review and post into Pronto (accounting system).
  • Prepare reconciliations for all payroll accounts
  • Ensure changes to master data (e.g. salary adjustments, PAYE tables, NAPSA ceiling etc.) are made timely and accurately to ensure accurate calculation of payroll and statutory deductions
  • Prepare and lodge statutory returns and payments (PAYE & SDL, NAPSA, NHIMA, HELSB etc.) and ensure that payments are confirmed received no later than on the due dates.
  • Be the primary point of contact for all audits relating to payroll and provide schedules and supporting documents requested for by the auditors.
  • Be the primary point of contact for interactions with relevant statutory stakeholders such as NAPSA and NHIMA
